![]() ![]() The action menu under the image list offers functions to edit, delete or create an image. As some of you had discovered before, the code for the debugger has been there under the hood for some time (and there were ways to make it come up), but it was not working well, not supported, not finished, and had no proper interface. But if you need more sophisticated functionality, create a GreenfootSound object and you can control the sound in more detail. ![]() This makes working with sounds much more flexible.įor short, simple sounds (such as sound effects), the aySound(…) method is still the best to be used. It has method for starting, stopping and pausing sounds, as well as looping. Now, Greenfoot has a new class called GreenfootSound. In previous Greenfoot versions, programmers had little control over how sounds are played. So go on and write your first MP3 player. Yes, mp3 support! Greenfoot can now play mp3 files! Really. You now also have more control over sound playback. It works, however, with most microphones, and we hope that the remaining problems will be fixed in a future Java update.īut sound recording is not all that’s new with sound. There is unfortunately a Java bug that cases problems with sound recording on some USB connected microphones. However, the built-in recorder should be sufficient in many cases. If you want more sophisticated sound editing, you can still use third party applications (such as Audacity). The functionality is very simple - just recording and trimming is supported - but this is what you need most of the time. It can be found in the Controls menu, and you can now record your sounds directly from within Greenfoot. Greenfoot now has a built-in sound recorder. Right-clicking the world itself (or indeed the grey background behind it) will show the world object context menu and lets you invoke the world methods. We have now removed this name, and instead made the whole world area right-clickable. ![]() It had, in fact, almost easter egg-like quality. It was bad UI design, since nothing in the name indicated that this was clickable. The problem was that this functionality was quite hidden, and many users never discovered it. It had a right-click functionality, that let you access the world object’s context menu to invoke instance methods on the world object itself. The name of the world used to serve as a placeholder to represent the world object itself. Sharp-eyed users may notice one small change: the world name, that used to be shown above the world in the main window, is not there anymore. “Where’s the new stuff?”, I hear you ask. The Greenfoot main window looks pretty much as it used to look before. (Yes, we are now supported by the good folks at Oracle, instead of Sun Microsystems, after Sun was swallowed up by Oracle.)īut after that, it all might look rather underwhelming at first. The first thing users will notice after upgrading is a new splash screen. New features are available in the editor, for processing and recording sound, for editing images, debugging your programs, and more. Here, I will summarise the most interesting changes (at least those that users can directly see – there are many internal improvements to performance and stability that I won’t discuss here). ![]()

While most trail 29ers still stick with a 100mm (3.9in) travel fork to avoid jacking the front end too high, Trek have properly committed to increased control with a 120mm stroke fork. The metallic finish still got lots of love from onlookers though. The translucent paint is very thin in some areas, such as inside the dropouts and rear brake mount and more obviously on the front mech mount. Unlike many 29ers, it even comes in an extra small size with a 15.5in (39.4cm) seat tube and 76cm standover. ![]() Tapered chainstays are mid-sized rather than massive but a 142x12mm rear axle gives maximum stiffness and security and the brakes sit on easily adjustable post rather than IS brake mounts too. The press-fit bottom bracket also has ISCG mounts ready for a chain device upgrade but the clutch rear mech and big rubber chainstay protector keep the drivetrain pretty quiet anyway. The asymmetrically flared and offset, concave backed seat tube for wheel and direct-mount front mech clearance is a masterpiece of hydroforming.Ī shaped outlet port for the Stealth seatpost hose and external guides offset the fact that the water bottle bosses stop you sliding the seatpost down a decent distance. The signature tapered E2 head tube and steeply sloped top tube give good crotch clearance despite the big wheels. Trek stache 7: Steve Behr/Future Publishingįrame & equipment: Good value kit but heavy steel-legged fork The front comes up surprisingly easily for manualling over or off stuff too, encouraging much more dynamic riding than most big-wheelers and leaving a big grin on our faces after every ride. While it can feel nervous and fluttery at first, the long wheelbase means it’s still an impressively stable bike once you learn to trust it, and the low bottom bracket means you can really rip it through corners with wheels scrabbling as you search for the exit point. The overall result is that you’ll still be surprised what the Stache can batter through (and at what speed) compared to a smaller-wheeled suspension bike. The G2 geometry also gives a distinctively light feel to the steering, so you have little trouble turning the big front wheel in sharply, even with a 90mm stem. The rear wheel screens out more chatter compared to some smaller-wheeled bikes, too, although you definitely get more of a wallop off bigger stuff than with some. The fat carcass 29er tyres also roll over rough stuff really well for serious speed sustain once you’ve got them going. While it’s not light, the Recon fork is smooth enough and the extra 20mm of travel over most 29er hardtails makes a big difference in control and confidence on big drops, rocks and logs. It puts a lot of torque and traction down on climbs and marshy ground, too, clearing with ease several test moorland sections that have stumped us for a while. There’s more than enough stiffness through the frame to recruit every sinew from shoulders to soles of the feet to getting the wheels moving, and it responds significantly quicker if you go full gas. ![]() ![]() This will either stop their bleeding or make them resistant to bleeding for a time. She sold many of her first works for a dime or quarter to pay for her husband’s medical treatment. She thinned her oil paint so much it resembled watercolor. From that time, she was prolific, and created over four-thousand scenes of plantation life on whatever materials were available from scrap wood to paper bags. Another supporter at that time was James Register, also an artist-in- residence, and he obtained a Julius Rosenwald Foundation Grant for her. In 1946, under his direction, she did her first work, a plantation baptism scene, from a few partially used tubes of oil paint on a window shade that he provided. Henry, Hunter met many people in the art world and was especially influenced and promoted by Francois Mignon, who was an artist-in-residence at the plantation. Her first male companion and father of two of her children was Charlie Dupree, who died in 1914. At age sixteen, she moved to nearby Melrose Plantation, where she worked for many years as a field hand. She attended a local Catholic school, but quit at a young age and never learned to read or write. She was born at Hidden Hill Plantation near Natchitoches, Louisiana, and lived there the remainder of her life of one-hundred-one years, raising seven children and working in the fields. She also did mural painting, and a number of her works had Christian religious subjects. Her subjects included everyday activities such as doing laundry and festive events including weddings, dances, and church going. Often referred to as “the black Grandma Moses,” Clementine Hunter painted four to five thousand paintings, which were boldly colored images in folk art style of plantation life in Louisiana.
